As a child, she love to listen to her dad's 1960s collections of soul, R n B, Afro pop, Jazz and Highlife music. Music has always been a part of her life.
At a very tender age, she went to live with her grandma in her village in Ibadan, South-west Nigeria. She returned to Lagos after 3years, and having witnessed what it feels like to live in the city and to live in the village, she was able to appreciate a wide span of music and roots traditions. In the village she would hear live music daily, and in Lagos she would sit by the music player all day listening to music and singing along with the artistes. Jemiriye grew up to the sounds of artists including; Bob Marley, King Sunny Ade, Aretha Franklin, Fela Kuti, Ebenezer Obey, En Vogue, Stevie Wonder, India Arie and Whitney Houston. Read more
